Making corn tortillas.
So you want to make corn tortillas ? You need three things, ingredients, machines and a recipe. Out of the three, the machines are the only thing we can supply you with. We don't sell ingredients and our recipes are a trade secret (click here for generic recipes).
Some of the machines you need for a complete corn line depend on the corn base you intend to use. If you want to make corn tortillas the old fashioned way starting with corn kernels, you will need a corn washer and a corn grinder. If you will start with a mix (maseca), you will need a mixer instead.
The pictures below are typical of corn line equipment. The specific machines below have been sold already, but we may have similar equipment available awaiting refurbishing, or we will find one for you. Do not hesitate to contact us for more information or to locate the machine you need. You can click on any picture to see a larger view.

These two machines are used only if you start the manufacturing process with corn kernel. The corn washer (right) washes the kernel, then the corn grinder (left) will grind it to a fine dust. Afterwards, this corn dust is mixed with your other ingredients and cooked in a tank (not pictured) for several hours. |

Whether you use corn kernel or maseca, the masa feeder (left) will turn your mix into a dough of various thickness (per your choice) and feed it to the sheeter that will cut the tortillas out from your dough in the size that you specify. Left-over dough will either be remixed or discarded depending on the model of sheeter. |

| Corn ovens come with up to eight lines (a line measures the number of tortillas side-by-side on the belt) but the actual number depends on the size of the tortilla that you are cooking. Tortilla ovens are the most expensive piece in a tortilla line. |

The position, quantity and intensity of gas burners inside a corn tortilla oven is specifically set for corn tortillas. You may cook flour tortillas in the same oven, but the result will never be as good as in a dedicated flour tortilla oven. |
